Panoramic photograph of the Golden Vale, the Galtee mountains, Slievenamon and part of the Comeragh mountains, taken from The Vee on the Knockmealdown mountains.
'The Vee' is the name given to a pass through the Knockmealdown mountains that connects Clogheen in County Tipperary with Lismore in County Waterford. The county borders run along the summit ridge for about twenty kilometres in this area. The road over the Vee offers good views into both counties but the steeper slope of the northern—Tipperary—side provides a spectacular view. Much of the route is densely wooded but about half way up to the summit of the pass an alpine style hairpin bend—free of trees—provides the view shown above. Much of the 'Golden Vale' is visible, the Galtee Mountains run from the west to the north, Slievenamon is north-west and Waterford's Comeragh Mountains start to appear in the west.

The Vee is also famous for its magnificent display of Rhododendrons in late May and early June. These feature in other photographs on this site.

Due to the nature of the subject, and the desire to eliminate large areas of foreground and sky, this image has a much wider aspect ratio than our other panoramas. In fact it is almost 8:1 when the other images are just under 4:1. A 30cm high print is 2.5 metres long! For this reason this image is to special order only since the print size and the framing method are likely to be unique to each customer's needs. The image can also be supplied split into three individual sections to be hung side by side.

A small slice of the full photograph, from about a quarter of the way in from the right, showing Slievenamon in the distance. This gives a better idea of the detail in the photograph but bear in mind that your screen shows just 72 dots per inch (about 28 per cm) and the print is produced at 360 dots per inch (about 142 dots per cm)
