As the river Suir meets the bridge in Cahir it widens to pass round the island that the castle is built upon. Regarded as one of Europe's finest Brown Trout rivers the Suir also has a good supply of Salmon. The large weir is a popular spot for anglers—including the feathered variety. Not visible on the web, but in the print you can see a Heron waiting patiently at the far end of the weir.
The photo was taken just after sunrise in April 2008. It is only in the early hours that the sun will be on the bridge and castle from this location.
